Through Project Playground, MCS will provide a safe, secure, and accessible playground for all students and families!
In 2021, a generous, anonymous donor came forward with a $200,000 pledge to improve the MCS playground, namely -- the playground surface. For over two decades, the playground has had pea gravel as its primary ground cover, with concrete at the basketball courts and an overrun open "grass" area for field games. With the pledge, MCS will be able to replace the gravel with puored-in recycled rubber. As well, the basketball courts can be updated with fresh-painted court markers and lines.
In fall 2021, the MCS community came together at the annual auction and raised an additional $64,000 for Project Playground, inching closer to being able to replace old and rusty play structures, basketball goals, and outdoor equipment.
As well, the school submitted a Waste Tire Resurfacing grant application to KDHE requesting funds for Project Playground to assist with the surfacing project. Should we receive grant funds to assist with the resurfacing aspect of the project, prior funds raised can then be applied towards play structures that are ADA compliant and safe for all to play!
